CONTAINER SHIPS
There are ocean transport companies that ship out of the Mainland West Coast
There are no ocean transport companies that ship directly to Hilo. The transport ships are off-loaded in Honolulu and then re-loaded either on a smaller Matson ship or on a Young Brother’s barge. You should plan that your household goods and car will take approx. 3 ½ weeks to arrive in Hilo Harbor from the West Coast. During the busy summer months it will take longer.

There are several moving and storage companies on the Island and in Hilo in particular. Many of
these companies have affiliations with Mainland moving companies to ensure that your goods arrive at your destination.
INTERISLAND AIR CARRIERS- Passenger Service
There are currently two Interisland passenger air carriers. These are Aloha and Hawaiian Airlines.
ISLAND TRANSPORTATION
The County of Hawaii maintains an Island-wide bus service called Hele-On.
PRIVATE BOATS
There is a limited amount of space for berthing boats in Hilo. There are two mooring places Reid’s Bay and the Wailoa River. Reid’s Bay is off-shore and no live-aboard. Wailoa River is for motor boats mostly and space is very limited. There is usually a wait list for Wailoa River. It is also no live-aboard. Hilo does not have any marinas.
